Dates: the fruit of kings. 11% of all dates produced worldwide come from the United Arab Emirates. Once a year the entire Arab world looks to Liwa - for it’s here that the annual ‘Date Festival’ takes place. In 2009 it attracted over 60,000 visitors to the UAE’s Al Gharbia region. Dates have always been a part of Arab culture. During the festival, a jury judges the dates’ size, quality, taste and cultivation. The visitors also get to learn something of the Arab way of life and traditions. Stunning landscapes and enchanting sunsets - just two of the Al Gharbia region’s many attractions.
